The Vision tool (V) is where you control what your players can see: a fog brush for painting fog by hand, and the switch for dynamic vision. It is a Pro tool. On the free plan its button is greyed out, and choosing it, or pressing V, opens the upgrade dialog. On a phone it is under More tools.
How fog levels look to you and to your players is explained in fog of war. This page walks through the panel.
Fog brush
Pick one of the four levels, Revealed, Explored, Terrain-only or Hidden, and click or drag over hexes, or tap and drag on a touch screen. Each chip is a small preview of how that level looks to your players; point at one for a description. The brush paints the chosen level, whatever the hex had before.
Size works as for the Brush, including , and .. On a detailed scale level, a fifth chip, Follow parent, makes a hex take its fog from the larger hex it sits inside again.
Under Whole map, Reveal All and Hide All set the fog of the current layer at once, on the scale level you are viewing, replacing anything you painted. On the surface, Hide All only covers hexes that have terrain or fog already; see painting fog by hand. Both can be undone.
The brush works whether dynamic vision is on or off. With dynamic vision on, it is how you hide something again, or reveal a place the party learned about without seeing it.
Dynamic vision
The Dynamic vision switch makes the map uncover itself around the party marker as it moves. The Party marker card shows which token vision is following. To make one, place a token with the Token tool and switch on Party marker in its editor; to move the party, drag that token.
While dynamic vision is on, the panel shows its settings:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Base Vision Range | How many hexes the party sees, 1 to 10 |
| Distant landmarks reveal | Lets prominent places, such as castles, be seen from farther away |
| Conditions | Time of day and weather, each lowering the range: dawn and dusk 1, night 2; rain 1, fog 2, storm and blizzard 3 |
| Reveal by | Reveals one region, every hex of one terrain, or the hexes along a path, with a path radius of up to 3 hexes either side |
When conditions lower the range, a short sum under the slider shows the result. The range never drops below 1.
Reveal by terrain only lists terrain painted on the surface of the scale level you are viewing, and reveals it there. Region and path reveal work on the layer the region or path belongs to.
What blocks the party’s sight, and how the trail of Explored hexes builds up, is in dynamic vision.
When players see your changes
Fog you paint with the brush reaches players almost at once. Reveal All, Hide All and Reveal by reach them when the map next saves. See sharing with players.
The Vision tool is hidden in the Point view. Switch to Hex or Combined to use it.
