Sharing a map with your players

Basics

A share link opens your map read-only in any browser. Your players do not need an account, and sharing is free.

Click Share in the top bar (on a phone, it is under More in the menu). You need to be signed in. Create Share Link saves your map first if it has never been saved, then makes the link. Click Copy Link, or click the link itself, and send it to your players. A map has one link, and reopening the dialog shows the same one.

Choose what players see

Under Viewer Visibility, switch parts of the map on or off for players: grid, coordinates, paths and rivers, regions, edges, notes, connections, fog of war, party marker, point crawl and tokens. The change applies to everyone who has the link. For paths, regions and notes, these options only control what is drawn: the map data still reaches your players’ browsers. To keep a note’s text away from players, set it to DM Only.

With dynamic vision on, players always see the fog. The Fog of War option only matters for fog you painted by hand. Turning it off shows players the terrain under that fog, but points of interest on Hidden and Terrain-only hexes still stay hidden. See fog of war and who sees which POI.

Protect it with a password

Under Share Password, enter a password and click Set. From then on, the link asks for it before showing anything. The dialog has no button to turn a link off. To lock everyone out, change the password and give the new one only to the players who should have it.

During the session

Players can pan and zoom freely, including into more detailed scale levels. They see each other’s cursors, and with a keyboard, holding Shift while dragging draws a line everyone sees for a few seconds.

Fog you paint with the Vision brush reaches players almost at once. Your other edits reach them when the map saves, a couple of seconds after you stop.

The dialog also holds the party marker, the travel log and the player journal settings. One option there lets players place and move the party marker themselves.
