Terms of Service

1. Scope and Provider

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Hexer ("the Service"), a browser-based hex map editor for tabletop role-playing games, operated by:

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

Hexer provides a web-based editor for creating, editing, and sharing hex-based maps for tabletop RPGs. The Service is available in two tiers:

  • Adventurer (Free): 1 map, up to 20×15 hexes, basic features.
  • Game Master (Pro): Unlimited maps, up to 200×200 hexes, all features including Underdark layers, Fog of War, cave generation, and travel planning.

3. Accounts

You may use some features of the Service without an account (as a guest). Guest data is stored only in your browser's local storage and is not backed up.

To save maps to the cloud, share maps, or subscribe to the Game Master plan, you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

The Game Master plan is a recurring subscription billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Prices are displayed on the pricing page and include applicable taxes.

  • Free trial: First-time subscribers may receive a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins automatically.
  • Renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time through the Stripe billing portal.
  • Cancellation: When you cancel, your pro features remain active until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Adventurer tier. Your maps are not deleted, but features beyond the free tier limits become read-only.
  • Payment failure: If a payment fails, you have a 7-day grace period to update your payment method. After the grace period, your account reverts to the Adventurer tier.
  • Refunds: We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis. Contact us at mail@vellip.de within 14 days of a charge if you believe it was made in error or if you are unsatisfied with the Service.

5. Your Content

You retain full ownership of all maps, notes, and other content you create using the Service ("Your Content"). We do not claim any intellectual property rights over Your Content.

By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you (e.g., rendering your maps, generating shared view links).

You can export Your Content at any time using the built-in export features (JSON, SVG, FoundryVTT).

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or other users' use of it.
  • Upload malicious content or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or otherwise access the Service in a manner that exceeds reasonable use.
  • Share content through shared map links that is illegal, harassing, or violates third-party rights.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

7. Service Quality and Availability

We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill and aim to keep it available and reliable. However, as a small operation, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Occasional downtime may occur due to maintenance, updates, infrastructure issues, or circumstances beyond our control.

The Service conforms to the description on our website and pricing page at the time of your subscription. We will provide necessary security and functionality updates as required to maintain the Service in conformity.

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned maintenance in advance.

8. Limitation of Liability

For damages caused by slight negligence, our liability is limited to foreseeable, contract-typical damages up to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. This limitation applies to breaches of material contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfillment is essential to the proper performance of the contract).

We are not liable for damages caused by slight negligence in the breach of non-material contractual obligations.

The above limitations do not apply to:

  • liability for injury to life, body, or health;
  • liability for intentional misconduct or gross negligence;
  • liability under mandatory product liability law;
  • any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, all your data is permanently removed.

We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these Terms, with reasonable notice where possible. In case of severe violations (e.g., abuse, fraud), termination may be immediate.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice within the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict of law provisions and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

If you are a consumer within the European Union, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights under those provisions.

12. Dispute Resolution

We are neither obligated nor willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board pursuant to Section 36 of the German Consumer Dispute Resolution Act (VSBG).
