A point crawl is a set of locations joined by routes. Unlike a road drawn with the Path tool, a route ignores the terrain beneath it and takes the time you give it.
Pick the Point Crawl tool (W). It is available when the switch at the top of the map is set to Point (only the point crawl and an empty grid) or Combined (point crawl over your hex map). In Combined, Shift + W shows or hides the point crawl.
Add locations
Click an empty hex to add a location. Hexer names it for you, and a picker opens to choose its type: Settlement, Dungeon, Landmark, Encounter, Crossroads, Wilderness, Secret or Custom. Keys 1 to 8 pick the type for the next location.
Click a location to rename it or change its type, color and size. More… opens its details: a description, a linked note, Route to… and Set Party Here, which puts the party marker there. Drag a location to move it.
Connect them with routes
Drag one location onto another to connect them. You can also select a location and Shift-click another, or choose Connect from its menu. A picker then asks for the route type, such as Road, Trail, River or Sea.
A new route’s travel time is the hex distance between its ends, in watches (one watch is about 4 hours). It updates when you move a location, until you set it yourself. Click a route to set the time, the difficulty, whether it runs both ways, and its color. Right-click a route to mark it Impassable, Locked or Dangerous.
Select a location or route and press Delete to remove it. Deleting a location also deletes its routes. On a touch screen, tap to add and select, and press and hold a location or route for its menu.
Find the quickest way
Right-click a location, choose Route to…, and click the destination. The panel lists each leg and the total, and can convert it to another pace. Impassable and Locked routes are skipped. Routes marked Dangerous from the right-click menu count at one and a half times their travel time; the Difficulty setting does not change the result.
What players see
The Share dialog’s Point Crawl switch (off by default) and the map’s view decide whether players see the point crawl drawn: only in the Point or Combined view, with the switch on. They do not keep it from players. To keep a location or route from players, switch on DM for it. A Secret location also stays hidden until you switch on Visible to Players in its details (the right-click Reveal to Players only switches off DM).
PNG and SVG exports include the point crawl when it is showing in the Point or Combined view and Point Crawl is ticked in the export dialog. The player version leaves out what players can’t see: DM locations and routes, Secret locations you have not revealed, and any location with Visible to Players switched off. The player Hex Key leaves out the same locations and their routes. See exporting your map.
Free and Pro
The free plan allows 25 locations per map. Pro has no limit and adds Generate Point Crawl (built from your notes, points of interest and roads), encounter tables on routes, and links to other maps.
