The toolbar runs down the left side of the editor. Click a tool or press its key. Point at a tool to see its name and shortcut; the key is also printed in the corner of each button. Press ? for the full list of shortcuts.
Which tools you see depends on the Hex, Point and Combined switch at the top of the map. Hex shows the hex-map tools, Point shows the Point Crawl tool with Region, Note and Pan, and Combined shows all of them.
A Pro tool is dimmed on the free plan. Clicking it, or pressing its key, opens the upgrade dialog instead.

On a phone
On a phone held upright, the toolbar moves to the bottom of the screen. It holds the menu, undo and redo when there is something to undo or redo, and five tools: Brush, POI, Eraser, Path and Note (in the Point view, only Note). Every other tool is under More tools, the button with three dots.
Most tools have options. Picking one opens them in a sheet that slides up from the bottom, and the toolbar hides while the sheet is open. Drag the sheet’s handle up to see more, or down to close it, or tap the map above it. Tap the active tool again, or the small handle above the toolbar, to bring the sheet back.
Turn the phone sideways and the toolbar becomes a rail down the left side again, with every tool in one column and the menu at the top. Scroll the rail if the tools do not all fit.
