Hexer has two plans: Adventurer, which is free, and Game Master, called Pro in the app. Prices are on the pricing page, in your currency.
What is free
Everything you need to make and run a map: all surface terrain, paths, rivers, regions and notes, world generation, every export format, share links with a live party marker, travel planning, a player journal, and one detail scale level below your base map. You can paint and export without an account; saving the map to your account needs one (see How saving works).
Free limits
- One saved map. A second one asks you to upgrade.
- 40 × 30 hexes. The limit applies to the base map. The one detail level you get adds finer hexes inside the same area without counting against it.
- 3 tokens per map, the party marker included.
- 25 point-crawl locations per map.
- Player journal: 50 entries per map and one template.
- Branding: exported images carry a small “Made with Hexer” mark, and players viewing your share link see a “Made with Hexer” badge.
What Pro adds
- Unlimited saved maps, up to 200 × 200 hexes, and up to four scale levels.
- Layers below the surface (three Underdark levels on a fantasy map), cave generation, and the Underdark terrain palette.
- The premium points of interest, marked with a lock in the palette.
- Fog of war and dynamic vision.
- World history when generating (ruins, battlefields and a chronicle), point-crawl generation, encounter tables on routes, linking a point-crawl location to another map, the travel heatmap, and tracing over another layer.
- Unlimited tokens, point-crawl locations and journal templates, and 5,000 journal entries per map.
- No watermark and no Hexer badge.
Trying a locked feature opens an upgrade window that says what it unlocks.
Free trial
If you have never had Pro, not even as a trial, Pro starts with a 7-day free trial, and you do not need a card to start it. Add a card before the trial ends to keep Pro; otherwise your account returns to the free plan on its own and your maps stay. How to add the card, cancel, or check the date is in Managing your subscription.
