The Path tool (P) draws lines across the map: roads, trails, rivers, borders and walls. Paths are free on every plan.
Pick a type
The Path types card in the sidebar lists Road, Trail, River, Border, Wall and Custom. On a fantasy map, keys 1 to 6 pick them in that order. A space map offers its own set, without rivers: Jump Route, Trade Lane, Border, Minefield and Custom. Picking a type always starts a new path.
Draw a path
Click or tap where the path should start, then keep clicking to add points. A point lands exactly where you click; it does not jump to the middle of a hex, so you can put several points inside one hex.
To finish, press Escape, right-click, or use Finish path at the top of the tool panel. On a touch screen, press and hold on the map, or tap Finish path.
Each new path gets a name, which you can change in the sidebar list.
Snap to the grid or another path
Hold Shift while you click or drag a point to snap it to the nearest hex corner, hex centre, or a point or line of another path. A marker shows where it will land. Snapping needs a keyboard.
When a river ends on another river or crosses it, the two are drawn as one body of water. Snapping the end onto the other river makes sure they meet.
Change a path
Click a path to select it; its points appear as handles.
- Move a point: drag its handle.
- Add a point in between: click on the line.
- Remove the last point: press Backspace.
- Continue drawing: double-click one of its points, then click to add points at its end.
- Close a loop: while drawing, click the first point again once the path has three points.
- Delete the path: press Delete, or use the delete button on its row in the sidebar.
After you select an existing path, clicking empty ground does nothing. Press Escape first to start a new path.
The path list
On this map lists the paths drawn where you are, grouped by type, with where each one starts and ends. A filter box appears once there are more than eight.
- Rename: double-click a path’s name, or use the pencil button that appears when you point at the row.
- Zoom to it: double-click the small line preview at the start of the row.
- On a touch screen: press and hold a row for Rename, Zoom to and Delete, or tap the line preview of the selected row to zoom to it.
Paths and layers
A path belongs to the layer you drew it on. Drawn on the base scale level, it shows on every scale level; drawn on a more detailed level, it shows only there. See scale levels.
The Paths & Rivers option in the Share dialog stops paths from being drawn for your players.
The Path tool is hidden in the Point view, which draws routes with the Point Crawl tool instead.
