Switch tools with one key

Key Tool Key Tool
B Brush N Note
F POI K Connection
E Eraser T Travel
S Select W Point Crawl
P Path M Token
R Region H Pan
V Vision G Edge

A key for a Pro tool you don’t have opens the upgrade dialog instead. A key for a tool your map type doesn’t offer does nothing.

With the Brush, Eraser, Vision, Region or Select tool, , and . make the brush smaller and larger. With the Path tool on a fantasy map, the number keys pick the path type: 1 Road, 2 Trail, 3 River, 4 Border, 5 Wall, 6 Custom. On a space map, pick the type in the Path panel instead. With the Point Crawl tool, 1 to 8 pick the node type.

Undo, redo and save

  • Ctrl + Z undoes (Cmd + Z on a Mac).
  • Ctrl + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Y redoes (Cmd + Shift + Z or Cmd + Y on a Mac).
  • Undo takes back changes to the map itself, including resizing it and adding or removing detail levels. Display settings, such as theme, hex size and label size, and the map’s name stay as you left them.
  • Ctrl + S (Cmd + S) saves now instead of waiting for the autosave. On a map that isn’t saved to your account yet, it opens the Save dialog.

Move around without changing tools

  • Hold Space and drag to pan, whatever tool is active.
  • Arrow keys pan; hold Shift to move further.
  • + and - zoom. 0 fits everything painted on the layer and level you’re looking at into view, and Ctrl + 0 (Cmd + 0) resets the view.

Hold and toggle keys

  • Shift + G hides or shows the hex fills.
  • Hold L to look at your reference layer on its own; let go to come back. It only works while a reference layer is set, which is a Pro feature.
  • Shift + T hides or shows the trace image.

Copy and paste with the Select tool

Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V (Cmd on a Mac) copy and paste hexes; see reusing parts of your map for the rest.

On a phone or tablet

There is no keyboard, so use the buttons: the tools sit in the bottom toolbar, with the rarer ones under More tools, and Undo and Redo buttons appear there once there is something to undo. Pinch to zoom and drag with two fingers to pan, whatever tool is active. Tap the zoom percentage to reset the view. See the Pan tool.
