Yes. You own the maps you make, and the Terms of Service let you use anything you export — PNG, SVG, Universal VTT, JSON or Hex Key — for any purpose, including publishing, selling or streaming it. There is no royalty, and you do not have to credit Hexer.
Two kinds of third-party material can end up in an export. Each has its own license, and that license asks for a credit when you publish it.
Icons
The symbols on the map — most terrain types, every point of interest, and any icon you give a token or a note — come from Game Icons and are licensed CC BY 3.0. If your PNG, SVG or Universal VTT export shows any of them, credit Game Icons wherever you publish the map. JSON and Hex Key exports contain no icon artwork.
Generated names and notes
If you made the map with Generate, the notes it wrote draw on openly licensed games — Ironsworn, Ironsworn: Delve, the System Reference Document 5.1 and Dungeon World — under Creative Commons Attribution licenses. When you publish those notes, or text you adapted from them, include their credits. The place and realm names the generator invents need no credit.
What needs no credit
- Terrain colours, and the paths and regions you draw yourself.
- Everything you wrote: your own names, notes and descriptions.
- Hexer itself.
On the free plan, image exports carry a small Hexer watermark and the Hex Key ends with a “Generated with Hexer” line; Pro exports carry neither. That mark comes with the free plan — it is not a condition for using your map.
For credits you can copy and paste, see How to credit icons and generated text.
This page explains the licenses in plain terms; it is not legal advice.
