Performance
Hexer’s map rendering was rebuilt on the GPU — large maps are dramatically faster and panning stays smooth.
- ImprovedPaths, rivers, terrain colour bleed, and the hex grid now draw on the GPU, staying crisp and fast at every zoom and scale level.
- ImprovedPanning and zooming large maps is now smooth — the map no longer rebuilds itself every time you move.
Shared maps
Live collaboration and travel history now work for everyone you share a map with.
- FixLive player cursors and freehand drawing now appear on shared maps — move your mouse to show your cursor to the table, and Shift+drag to sketch over the map for everyone to see.
- ImprovedThe travel log now works on every shared map, not just ones using fog of war — moving the party marker always records the journey, and players can open the log and trail from the share view.
- FixFixed party position, vision, and travel data occasionally leaking between two different share links of the same map.
- FixSwitching scale levels in the editor now updates the shared view both ways — including when you zoom back out to the base level.
- FixChanging the scale level on a shared map no longer resets its other display settings (regions, notes, fog, etc.).
- FixThe shared map minimap now shows discovered terrain in full colour and updates as the party reveals new hexes — previously it could stay dark on maps using dynamic vision.
- ImprovedThe party marker now appears on the shared map minimap, so players can always see where they are at a glance.
Map labels
Place, feature, and note names across the map now share one crisp, consistent text system.
- FixRegion names no longer blur on detailed, zoomed-in, or multi-scale maps — they stay sharp at every zoom level.
- ImprovedMap labels now render in every language, including Cyrillic, Hebrew, and Chinese.
- ImprovedHex, region, and note labels share a unified look and stay crisp on high-resolution displays.
Emails
Every email Hexer sends was rebuilt — clearer, more accurate, and better at reaching your inbox.
- NewNew account emails for the moments that matter: a welcome when your Pro trial starts, a confirmation when a payment goes through or recovers, and a friendly reminder before Pro access pauses.
- ImprovedAll Hexer emails were redesigned and rewritten with clearer wording, accurate feature lists, a plain-text version, and one-click unsubscribe — so they land in your inbox, not spam.
- FixFixed a duplicate welcome email and a billing link that pointed to the wrong page.
General
- ImprovedThe upgrade screen now leads with the exact feature you reached for and groups everything Pro unlocks into a clearer, easier-to-scan layout.
Fantasy maps
- ImprovedTrails got a richer dirt-path look — mottled packed earth with a natural, ragged edge that blends into the terrain, simplifying to a clean solid path when zoomed out.
Space maps
- ImprovedSpace routes redrawn with a bold sci-fi look — glowing plasma jump routes, convoy-light trade lanes, twin-rail borders, and hazard-striped minefields.
Layer Reference
When you have map layers turned on, you can now show another layer faintly beneath the one you’re editing — perfect for lining up a cavern with the river above it, or a dungeon level with the floor over it.
- NewA new layer-reference button next to the layer selector lets you pick another layer to show as a faint guide. It appears only in the empty hexes you haven’t painted yet, so your current layer always stays clear.
- NewHold Space (or press and hold the Peek button on touch) to momentarily reveal the full reference layer — including beneath hexes you’ve already painted — then release to keep working.
- NewAdjust how strong the reference looks with an opacity slider in the button’s popover.
