Flat-Top Maps

Flat-Top Maps
You can now choose between two hex orientations when creating a new map. Pick the one that fits the grid feel you want for your world.
- NewPick pointy-top (the classic hex-crawl look, rows stagger side to side) or flat-top (columns stagger up and down) when creating a new map. Free for everyone, no tier restriction.
- NewFlat-top maps work across the whole app: painting, biome bleed, paths, regions, notes, point crawls, fog and vision, PNG/SVG export, and the shared player view.
- ImprovedOrientation is set once when you create a map and stays fixed afterward, since it is baked into everything already painted on the map.
Navigation & Controls
A pass over how you move around the map — panning and zooming now work the way they do in other map and design tools.
- FixZooming with Ctrl/Cmd and the scroll wheel no longer snaps straight to the smallest zoom.
- ImprovedThe scroll wheel zooms the map in and out, centered on your cursor. Prefer scrolling to pan instead? The first time you scroll we ask, and you can switch any time from the Scroll Wheel toggle in the View menu. Ctrl/Cmd+scroll — or a trackpad pinch — always zooms.
- ImprovedPinch-to-zoom now zooms toward your fingers instead of the middle of the screen.
- NewHold the Space bar and drag to pan the map without switching away from your current tool.
- NewPan the map with the arrow keys — hold Shift to move in bigger steps.
- NewPress 0 to frame the whole map in view. The editor now also frames your map automatically when you open it.
- ImprovedPanning and zooming now glide smoothly, and honor your system’s reduced-motion setting.
General
- FixPoint crawls on the largest maps now correctly enforce free-tier node and edge limits instead of allowing more than intended.
- FixInvalid or broken shared-map links now show a proper “not found” page instead of an error.
