Space Maps

v1.6.0 · June 17, 2026

Space Maps

Draft sector and system maps on a brand-new dark, starfield canvas.

  • NewNew “Space” theme: pick it when creating a map, or switch any map to it in Canvas settings.
  • NewSpace maps render on a dark starfield background with a dim grid — in the editor, exports, thumbnails, and the shared player view.

Sci-Fi Tiles & Worldbuilding

Space maps get their own terrain and points of interest, plus new region and note tools for every map.

  • NewNew space maps start filled with Deep Space, and Deep Space is the default brush — so the sector reads as solid space and you can drop stars, stations and other points of interest on any hex right away.
  • NewPaint sci-fi terrain on space maps — nebulae, asteroid fields, ion storms, anomalies and more (free).
  • NewPlace space points of interest — stars, planets, stations, derelicts, warp gates and more.
  • NewThe palette shows tiles for your map theme, with a “Show all themes” toggle for science-fantasy maps.
  • NewSpace terrain shows true colours on the dark canvas, and point-crawl locations get sci-fi names.
  • NewNew region kinds (Territory, Contested, Hazard, Wild, Special) style an area in one click.
  • NewNew Hazard and Resource note categories.
  • NewSpace maps get their own route styles and names — draw glowing jump routes, amber trade lanes, borders and minefields, with sci-fi route names generated automatically.
  • ImprovedRoutes on space maps are drawn as straight geometric lines instead of organic curves, matching the sci-fi grid look. Fantasy maps keep their curved roads and rivers.
  • NewJump-lines between systems on space maps now render as glowing sci-fi routes by default, matching the space path styling.

Fixes

  • FixGenerate Point Crawl now works on space maps — stars, planets, stations, starports, wrecks, warp gates and other sci-fi points of interest become nodes (it previously produced nothing).
  • ImprovedRemoving a feature (right-click → Remove Feature) now also clears its name label, so a place’s name never lingers after the feature is gone.
  • FixCustom terrain types now show up on the minimap in the shared player view, instead of leaving blank spots.
  • FixRegion outlines no longer balloon into a thick border when you zoom out — the outline now stays in proportion to the hexes so regions remain readable at every zoom level.
  • FixRegions drawn on the overview map now fill the entire matching area when you zoom into a more detailed scale level, instead of highlighting just one small hex.
