Scale Levels — Semantic Hex Zoom
v1.2.0 · June 2, 2026
Scale Levels — Semantic Hex Zoom
Define multiple map scales (e.g. 24 mi/hex → 6 mi/hex → 1 mi/hex) and zoom between them seamlessly. Each scale level has its own hex grid with independent terrain, features, and labels. Parent terrain bleeds through to child scales automatically.
- NewMulti-resolution hex maps with configurable scale levels in Map Settings
- NewContinuous, Google-Maps-style zoom that glides between scale levels with a smooth crossfade
- NewPreset scale configurations: Kingdom → Province, Province → Local, Full Drill-Down
- NewChoose to auto-generate child terrain from parent or start with a blank canvas
- NewPoints of interest expand into hamlets, bridges, and roads with auto-generated fantasy names on detail maps
- NewPaths, rivers, regions, notes, fog, and point crawl project onto child-scale maps
- NewCreate notes, regions, and point crawl nodes specific to detail-level maps
- NewPlan travel — routes, pace, and heatmaps — directly on detail maps
- NewFog of war inherits from the world map with per-hex override control
- NewPOI icons (cities, hamlets, bridges) now appear on detail maps
- NewBiome bleed works at all scale levels for smooth terrain transitions
- NewPlayers can zoom between scales in the live shared view
- NewExport any scale level to PNG, SVG, or Universal VTT (Pro)
- NewFree maps include one extra scale level; Pro unlocks unlimited levels and per-scale export
- ImprovedPNG thumbnails always capture the base-level overview
- ImprovedFoundry VTT export uses base-level hexes only for compatibility
Hex Label Legibility
- ImprovedHex labels now use a bold parchment outline instead of a background box, staying readable on dark terrain without cluttering the map
- ImprovedLabels fade in as you zoom in and fade away at the overview, keeping the big picture clean
Terrain Icon Opacity
- NewNew Map Settings slider controls how prominent terrain icons are — applied on the canvas and in PNG and SVG exports
General
- FixRoads and rivers now switch to their detailed appearance at the same zoom level
- FixNotes with long content now scroll inside the editor, so the Save button stays reachable
